Rekha Thapa off her membership to their organisation on October 1—through a press-release—for having launched her movie Himmatwali in defiance of the rules of the association. But Thapa remains defiant still.According to the association’s rules, Nepali films being released within the Valley can only be premiered on Fridays.
Thapa had broken the association’s rule by releasing her latest flick on Wednesday last week, on the occasion of Fulpati. But producer Thapa, who also stars in the film, seems unfazed by the action taken against her.
“If the producers don’t want me, I’ll start my own organisation,” says Thapa. The actress claims that the association has not been consistent in how they deal with film release dates.

“In October 6, 2011, for example, I had released my film, Andaaz, on a Tuesday. Back then, no one made a hue and cry. They are only trying to tarnish my image,” says Thapa.
The Friday-release provision was created in 2003, as part of an agreement between the Film Producers’ Association of Nepal and the Nepal Film Association.
